Enclo. No. 2.
Copy F.O. (1)
Sir,
I have the honour to forward for your
information the accompanying copy of a report by the
Manager of the British Section of the Kowloon-Canton
Railway on the claims of this section against the
Chinese Section in respect of suspension of traffic
and demurrage of rolling stock.
2.
I have, I regret to say, no immediate hope
of securing any reparation in respect of this claim.
In fact the financial position of the Chinese Section
has been so consistently desperate that no formal claim in respect of suspension of traffic has been
presented since 1923. The enclosed copies of the
correspondence which took place on that occasion
clearly indicate the answer which will be made to
any attempt at recovery. Moreover, at the moment
of writing the through-service is again interrupted
by the struggle between Kwangsi and Nanking for
control of Canton and a 100 feet steel span from one
of the major bridges at Shek-t'an has been blown up
by
THE RIGHT HONOURABLE
LIEUTENANT COLONEL L.C.M.S. AMERY, M.P.,
